Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 16 March 1988. Durphey discusses her early family life in St. Louis, Missouri, her educational experiences, her marriage, the birth of her children, and her divorce. She explains her search for religion, her brother Leonard Rice's conversion to the Mormon Church, as well as her own conversion to that church. She talks about the influence of the Mormon Church on her life and her feelings about the experiences of black Mormons in general.
